Burma’s capital named ‘slice of post-apocalypse suburbia

Imagine a city where you could drive simultaneously alongside 19 of your closest friends, have the one of the speediest Wi-Fi-connections ever, and indulge in amazing golf courses with hardly any one else in the city!?

This is exactly the reality in the capital city of Burma, Naypyidaw, which has recently been named by the Guardian as a ‘slice of post-apocalypse suburbia.’ And they aren’t wrong.

For a city six times the size of New York, Naypyidaw is only home to around 1 million inhabitants, according to a 2014 census. When you compare this with the approximate 8 million inhabitants in New York, you can definitely see how Naypyidaw would be a post-apocalyptic ghost town.
