In a move some Australian Survivor fans considered unfair, this week Georgia Ray was allowed to leave the game for 24 hours for medical assessment. She returned on Monday night, but was swiftly voted out by her tribe.

Following this week’s eviction, Georgia has taken to social media to set the record straight about what actually happened. “I want to take this opportunity to put to bed some of the confusion concerning my health on Survivor. I have had some people question the timing of my illness and also the 24 hour medical exemption. Most importantly, I want to find the courage to share my experience because I believe that telling your story releases you from it, no matter what it is.”

Georgia then revealed she suffered an ectopic pregnancy while in camp and her story sounds nothing short of harrowing. An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilised egg doesn’t implant itself inside the uterus — instead attaching to the fallopian tube, abdominal cavity, or cervix. This means a baby cannot grow and it can cause vaginal bleeding or/and pain in the abdomen, shoulders and bowel.

Georgia wrote that “During the evening of day 18 of Survivor (the night before I was taken to hospital), I suffered an extremely painful rupture of my fallopian tube due to an unknown and unplanned ectopic pregnancy,” she said.

“I was very grateful to receive medical treatment in hospital the following day, however unfortunately the pregnancy was not identified by the doctors.” It wasn’t until Georgia was voted out and returned home that she was again taken to hospital after another rupture, where she was told she was six weeks pregnant and needed to have emergency surgery.

Georgia says that she has since made a full recovery and thanked her friends and family for their support. After sharing her story, Survivor campmates, along with past contestants, have rallied around Georgia. One of Georgia’s closest friends on her tribe, Laura Wells, commented on the post, saying, “You are one hell of a woman Gray! We love you and [are] just so happy you have now had the treatment you needed.”

Another Australian Survivor 2021 cast member, Shannon Lawson, added: “We love you! Thank you for sharing this with the public to help remove the stigma behind this topic.”

Felicity Egginton from Season 1 wrote “First of all I am so sorry for your loss Georgia. I can’t imagine the world of pain you must have gone through physically and mentally, and still continue to go through. Thank you for sharing your story to raise more awareness, and I hope you are feeling much better now being surrounded by your loving family and friends.”

Season 4’s Sarah Tilleke wrote on Australian Survivor’s reshare of Georgia’s post that “Yet again an amazing woman to come out of this show. Your strength and resilience is astounding girlfriend!! I’m sure this post helps so many who can relate.”

Hear, hear!

Channel 10 said in a statement shared on social media: “Australian Survivor takes the health and safety of our contestants very seriously. During filming, Georgia became ill and subsequently required hospitalisation. We are pleased that Georgia has recovered now and we thank her, not only for the determined game she played, but also for the courage to share her story.”
