Kyle Sandilands Is Returning To Judge ‘Australian Idol’ And I Feel Like A Portal To Hell Just Opened
Hold on to your wigs because Kyle Sandilands is set to return to Australian Idol as a judge, and honestly, we’d rather see Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson, Marcia Hynes, and/or Mark Holden return.
The radio shock jock announced his coming back to the singing competition this morning on his breakfast show with co-host, Jackie O.
A lot of the news surrounding Channel 7’s Australian Idol revival — such as the format, location and dates — has remained hush-hush, but Kyle has decided to spill an IMMENSE amount of tea on the iconic reality show on his brekky show, Kyle and Jackie O.

Kyle Sandilands, who was originally on the judging panel from 2005 to 2009, announced that he will most likely be coming back as a judge. “I think this week they’re bringing the contract. I said I’ll only sign it on the radio show, so all the big head honchos have to march into the studio with the contract, and I’ll sign it live on-air,” he said.
Kyle added that the format will stay the same, with the top 12 even occupying a share house. Kyle also reassured listeners and Idol fans that he will be returning as a ‘mean judge’ whilst throwing shade at The Voice. “I like The Voice, but I won’t be one of those wishy-washy Voice judges who are like, ‘no matter how disgusting you are to look at, you’ve got a great voice’. No,” he said.
Yikes.

Jackie O also asked if any other original judges would make a return, such as Marcia, Dicko or Mark, but unfortunately it seems like Kyle is the only former judge to be returning. “No, nup, none of them. I’m the only one still alive… I mean, alive on TV. Marcia would be good…But I think she’s still touring around,” Kyle replied.
Although we won’t be getting our ‘Touchdown!’ fix, Kyle hints that big names are interested in joining the panel. “I’d like at least another Australian… I would love big name US and a big name UK,” he said. “A lot of big stars are interested.”

In more bad news, according to Kyle viewers should also not expect OG Idol host Osher Günsberg to be making a return, with Kyle claiming that he is too busy to reprise his role. If you miss watching Osher, you can catch him as the host of The Masked Singer.

During Kyle’s time on Idol, he was most definitely more on the mean side. One standout moment was when he told Season 3 winner Kate DeAraugo that she had “tuckshop arms”. We’re not too sure what chaos he’s set to bring, but we really hope the Australian Idol gods surprise us and bring us the original three, because I would kill for a Mark Holden ‘Touchdown!’ at this point.
Australian Idol is set to make a return in 2023. Just last month, Channel 7 announced that they’re looking for Aussies aged 15-28 to take a whack at becoming Australia’s next singing superstar like Guy Sebastian or Jessica Mauboy.
